A coronary care unit (CCU), also known as cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) is a specialized hospital ward where patients with cardiac dysrhythmia, heart attack, unstable angina, and other cardiac conditions are admitted. Here, these patients are provided with a specific treatment plan and care services designed particularly for patients with cardiac disorders. These are a highly sensitive unit of the hospital as the disease it caters to is of a serious nature and requires continuous treatment and monitoring by certified healthcare professionals.

In the CCU, a patient’s cardiac rhythm is always under continuous monitoring with the help of electrocardiography. This helps in early intervention of care, preventing the disease to take a severe form with timely delivery of care to patients.
