A health professional who uses medical imaging techniques, such as ultrasound to diagnose vascular problems, heart conditions or any other ailment related to the heart, valves, peripheral blood vessels, and arteries. As a technician, the primary work of a cardiovascular technologist comprises of measuring the electrical signals sent by the heart through the EKG or electrocardiogram device. They place sensors on the patient’s body that are connected to different machines which record patient’s heart beat.

To become a cardiovascular technologist, the candidate has to complete bachelor’s degree in cardiovascular technology from an accredited institution. Once graduated, they need to pass the certification test called Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) test conducted by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) and the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Also, in whichever state the candidate lives, he/she will require to take state’s medical board exam and obtain license to practice.
