Dental radiography is a dental examination process in which the radiologist makes use of x-ray radiation to penetrate into the oral structure of the patient’s mouth. Such radiographic images are taken to examine dental issues such as cavities, malignant or benign masses, diagnose root canal, etc.

Dental radiographs are synonymous with x-rays in the field of dentistry. There are two categories of dental x-ray – intraoral referring to the x-ray of inside portion of the mouth, and the other one is extraoral which relates to the x-ray of the outside part.
