Presently known as skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), nursing homes are a residential care centers offering twenty-four-hour nursing care to patients in need. This medical facility center comprises of nursing home administrators, licensed healthcare professionals such as nurses, nursing assistants, caretakers, and others. Individuals, who need high-level of medical care or emergency care services, get admitted to a nursing home to receive assisted living care. While patient care is the responsibility of the registered nurses, keeping the facility clean and hygienic is the responsibility of house-keeping staff in the nursing home.

A nursing home offers a comprehensive set of care services including occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, physical therapy, etc. In some cases, nursing homes also offer memory care services.
